UAE Showcases Leadership In Global Food Security Initiatives On World Food Day
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable Establishment (MBRC) and the DIHAD Sustainable Organisation recently hosted a panel discussion on "From Giving to Sustainability: The UAE’s Leadership in Global Food Security." Held at Dubai's Museum of the Future, this event coincided with World Food Day. Attendees included Abdullah Al Basti, Chairman of MBRC's Board of Trustees, alongside leaders and experts in humanitarian and sustainable development fields.
Participants highlighted the UAE's initiatives like the "1 Billion Meals" campaign, which has reached over 65 countries. These efforts aim to enhance food availability both locally and globally. The UAE is committed to evolving from immediate relief efforts to long-term strategies that empower communities and build sustainable capacities.

The session underscored the UAE’s commitment to ensuring food security through innovative projects. This aligns with this year’s World Food Day theme, "Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future." The UAE's approach reflects a dedication to providing practical solutions to global food challenges.
Dr. Abdulsalam AlMadani, Chairman of DIHAD Sustainable Organisation, emphasised the importance of food security as a pillar of human stability. He stated, "The United Arab Emirates has demonstrated that combining giving, innovation, and humanitarian diplomacy can truly transform lives and lay the foundation for a more sustainable and equitable future."
The DIHAD Sustainable Organisation plays a crucial role through its international initiatives. As organisers of The Dubai International Humanitarian Aid & Development Conference & Exhibition - DIHAD, they embody the UAE’s vision of merging generosity with innovation for sustainable human development.
The DIHAD Humanitarian College symbolises hope in education and humanitarian work. Launched in 2022, it offers the world’s first Master’s Degree in Sustainable Humanitarian Action. This programme equips professionals with skills needed for effective operation in evolving environments.
Global Partnerships for Sustainable Solutions
The panel discussion also explored how the UAE fosters strong partnerships with international organisations to build resilient food systems. This is particularly vital in regions affected by conflict and climate change. Ensuring consistent food supply remains a top priority for the nation.
Stephen Anderson from the World Food Programme (WFP) UAE Office participated in the session moderated by Khaled Al Attar from DIHAD Sustainable Organisation. They discussed how these partnerships are essential for addressing global food security challenges effectively.
World Food Day as a Platform for Commitment
World Food Day serves as an opportunity to renew global commitment towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. Participants stressed that ensuring universal access to safe and sufficient food throughout the year is crucial.
The collaboration between MBRC and DIHAD reflects their dedication to raising awareness about food security as a shared humanitarian issue. It reaffirms the UAE’s position as a leading centre for dialogue on global humanitarian matters.
This session concluded with calls to strengthen international partnerships against climate change impacts while ensuring global food security. Participants noted that the UAE’s experience represents a unique model combining foresight with compassion, reinforcing its leadership role in sustainable development.
