UAE's Leadership In Global Polio Eradication Efforts Highlighted By Health Minister
The UAE has made significant progress in the global fight against polio, according to Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention. This success is attributed to the strategic vision of the UAE's leadership, particularly President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Al Owais highlighted that humanitarian initiatives launched by the UAE President have been crucial in supporting worldwide efforts to eradicate polio. These initiatives aim to provide a healthy and dignified life for millions of children and their families. "The UAE is proud of its leading role in eradicating polio. Our humanitarian initiatives have reached millions of children worldwide, helping significantly reduce infection rates," he stated on World Polio Day, 24th October.

The minister underscored the UAE's unwavering commitment to this humanitarian cause. The country continues to provide sustained and effective support for international organisations conducting large-scale vaccination campaigns in vulnerable regions. This dedication was recently demonstrated by the UAE President's initiative to allocate US$5 million for an emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza.
Al Owais noted that this financial contribution reflects the UAE’s ongoing dedication to addressing global humanitarian issues. The nation remains committed to implementing national immunisation campaigns against polio, ensuring comprehensive vaccination coverage through adherence to the latest international health protocols.
The Ministry’s efforts align with its strategic vision to develop an integrated health system for future generations. This includes promoting scientific research in infectious diseases and enhancing the UAE’s position as a global leader in health excellence and quality of life.
Al Owais emphasised that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed at building a robust healthcare infrastructure. The focus is on ensuring that all members of society are protected from preventable diseases like polio.
The UAE's commitment to eradicating polio is evident through its continuous support for global vaccination efforts and its investment in health systems. These actions demonstrate a strong resolve to contribute positively to global health challenges while safeguarding its own population.
