UAE Leadership Lauds Nursing Profession's Vital Role In Healthcare Development
On the occasion of International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on 12th May, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), has underscored the unwavering support of the UAE's wise leadership for the nursing profession. This support is part of the nation's strategic Projects of the 50, aimed at fostering the development of national nursing cadres. The Minister highlighted the pivotal role nurses play within health systems and stressed the importance of investing in nursing staff to prepare them for leadership roles in health care and to showcase their capabilities on a global stage.
Al Owais praised the UAE's innovative approach in launching national initiatives and programs designed to enhance the appeal of the nursing profession and to fast-track its Emiratisation. This effort is not only aimed at ensuring the profession's sustainability but also at contributing to the sustainable development goals. He pointed out that the evolving healthcare needs continually reaffirm the critical role of nursing cadres in shaping future healthcare strategies. Nurses are increasingly playing a significant role in supporting preventive health, boosting public health, and integrating technology into healthcare services.

The Minister shed light on the National Strategy for Nursing and Midwifery-2026, which aims to bolster the governance of these professions through professional regulatory policies and practices. This strategy is also focused on effective planning and management of the nursing and midwifery workforce, ensuring that nursing cadres perform their duties in line with their education and expertise to provide high-quality healthcare services.
