The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has introduced the third edition of The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award. This initiative, in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), aims to promote innovation and sustainability within aviation. The award, valued at one million US dollars, encourages innovative solutions and research for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) development.
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of GCAA, highlighted the UAE's commitment to fostering innovation for a sustainable aviation future. The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Aviation Award is one of the UAE's prominent contributions in this context, as it strengthens and drives the transformation toward more sustainable aviation worldwide."

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of GCAA, explained that this edition reflects a strong commitment to a better aviation future. It aims to foster competition among academic and research institutions to produce innovative solutions for industry sustainability. This aligns with the UAE's vision for global aviation sector development.
The award will recognise achievements in three categories: Academic Organisations - Undergraduates, Academic Organisations - Postgraduates, and Research Institutions. Each category focuses on advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) solutions. The first-place winners in both undergraduate and postgraduate categories will receive US$250,000 each.
