UAE's MoHRE Launches Upgraded Labour Accommodation System For Enhanced Worker Wellbeing

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has taken a significant step towards enhancing the living conditions of workers in the UAE by launching a new edition of the Labour Accommodation System. This pioneering national platform is designed for the registration of workers’ accommodation facilities, offering companies across the nation access to regulated units that meet the Ministry's stringent standards and regulations. This initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to improving the quality of life for its workforce, further cementing its status as a premier global destination for employment and investment.

In a recent announcement, MoHRE emphasized the importance of compliance with Ministerial Resolution No. 44 of 2022, which pertains to Occupational Health and Safety and Labour Accommodation. Companies employing 50 or more individuals are now mandated to provide suitable accommodation through approved systems and must register their details on the official MoHRE website. This move is part of a broader strategy to ensure that companies adhere to labour accommodation standards, thereby enhancing worker wellbeing and productivity.

New UAE Labour Accommodation System Launched

MoHRE has reported a remarkable surge in compliance among private sector companies, with registrations in the Labour Accommodation System increasing tenfold by the end of 2023 compared to figures from February 2022. This growth is attributed to various factors, including the implementation of the online system, periodic inspection campaigns, and concerted efforts to educate business owners about their responsibilities towards their employees' living conditions.

The Ministry also highlighted the collaborative efforts with federal and local government entities that have significantly contributed to this success. A total of 103 inspection campaigns were conducted in 2023, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and living standards. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive approach to labour accommodation standards that aim not only to enhance the UAE's labour market competitiveness but also to ensure workers' health, safety, and comfort.

Legislation regarding labour accommodation encompasses a wide range of requirements designed to safeguard workers' wellbeing. These include ensuring accommodations are situated in suitable locations, providing essential amenities such as water, electricity, air conditioning, sufficient lighting, and non-flammable building materials. Additionally, accommodations must offer adequate space for rest, personal storage, sufficient ventilation, sanitary facilities, and hygiene necessities. By setting these comprehensive standards, MoHRE aims to secure the UAE's position as a leader in promoting worker welfare on a global scale.
