UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team Achieves Seven Medals On Day 2 Of Championship In Greece
The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, backed by Mubadala Investment Company, achieved significant success on the second day of the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Heraklion, Greece. The team secured a total of seven medals: two gold, three silver, and two bronze. This accomplishment highlights the team's dedication and skill in the sport.
Omar Al Suwaidi claimed gold in the 56 kg category, while Khaled Al Shehhi took gold in the 62 kg category. Silver medals were awarded to Balqees Abdul Karim (45 kg), Zayed Alkatheeri (56 kg), and Mohammed Al Suwaidi (69 kg). Aysha Al Shamsi (45 kg) and Maitha Shraim (48 kg) earned bronze medals, further boosting the UAE's medal tally.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expressed gratitude for the support from UAE leadership. He acknowledged their crucial role in preparing the national team and enhancing its global standing. Al Shamsi emphasized that these achievements reflect the Federation's dedication to nurturing champions who meet international standards.
Al Shamsi praised both male and female athletes for their accomplishments. He highlighted that their success strengthens the team's chances of retaining the championship title. "What our athletes have achieved today clearly demonstrates the success of the intensive preparation and training camps that were essential in refining their skills and enhancing their mental and physical capabilities," he stated.
Omar Al Suwaidi, who won gold in his category after competing against fellow Emirati Zayed Al Katheeri in the final, expressed his gratitude: "I dedicate this achievement to the UAE leadership, the people, and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. I am thankful to everyone who supported us on this journey."
Khaled Al Shehhi shared his joy after winning gold: "This accomplishment brings indescribable happiness. I have worked hard, especially during the training camp. I am proud to raise the UAE flag on the podium and hear our national anthem—these are priceless moments of pride."
Upcoming Competitions
The championship continues with more events scheduled for today. In men's categories, Mahdi Al Awlaqi and Sultan Al Hosni will compete in 77 kg, while Saeed Al Kubaisi will represent in 85 kg. For women's categories, Shamsa Al Amri and Al Anoud Al Hosni will compete in 57 kg, with Shamaa Al Kalbani participating in 63 kg.
This series of victories underscores months of rigorous preparation by athletes like Omar Al Suwaidi. He remarked on their journey: "This victory is the result of months of hard work and preparation. I am grateful to the Federation, technical staff, and everyone who helped us reach this level. We are focused on achieving more medals and titles."
