UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team Achieves Seven Medals At World Championship In Greece

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, backed by Mubadala Investment Company, secured seven medals on the second day of the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Heraklion, Greece. The team achieved two golds, three silvers, and two bronzes. Omar Al Suwaidi (56 kg) and Khaled Al Shehhi (62 kg) clinched gold, while Balqees Abdul Karim (45 kg), Zayed Alkatheeri (56 kg), and Mohammed Al Suwaidi (69 kg) earned silver. Aysha Al Shamsi (45 kg) and Maitha Shraim (48 kg) took bronze.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, highlighted the vital role of the UAE's leadership in preparing the national team. He noted that their support has been instrumental in maintaining the team's prominent position globally. Al Shamsi praised both male and female athletes for their achievements, stating that winning multiple medals enhances their chances of retaining the championship title.

Al Shamsi emphasised that the athletes' success reflects the Federation’s strategy to discover and nurture champions according to international standards. "What our sons and daughters have achieved today clearly reflects the success of the intensive preparation phase and training camps that were crucial in honing the team members’ skills and enhancing their mental and physical abilities," he added.

Omar Al Suwaidi, who won gold in the 56 kg category after an all-Emirati final against Zayed Al Katheeri, expressed his gratitude: "I dedicate this achievement to the UAE leadership, the people, and the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. I also thank everyone who has supported us on this journey." He acknowledged that months of hard work led to this success.

Khaled Al Shehhi, who triumphed in the 62 kg category, shared his joy: "Achieving this accomplishment brings indescribable happiness. I’ve worked hard, especially during the training camp. I am proud to raise the UAE flag on the podium and hear our national anthem—these are priceless moments of pride."

The competition continues with more events scheduled for today. The men's categories include 77 kg and 85 kg, while women will compete in 57 kg and 63 kg categories. Representing these categories are Mahdi Al Awlaqi and Sultan Al Hosni (77 kg), Saeed Al Kubaisi (85 kg), Shamsa Al Amri and Al Anoud Al Hosni (57 kg), along with Shamaa Al Kalbani (63 kg).

The UAE team's performance at this championship underscores their commitment to excellence in jiu-jitsu. Their achievements reflect rigorous preparation and dedication from both athletes and supporting staff.
