UAE And Japan Unite To Explore Water Desalination Advances At WFES 2024
At the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2024, a significant collaboration unfolded between the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) of the UAE and the Japan Cooperation Centre for the Middle East. This partnership aimed to foster dialogue on advancements in energy and water desalination technologies. The session, a melting pot of innovation and shared knowledge, saw participation from leading companies, academic institutions, and government bodies from both nations.
The focus of this joint session was on enhancing bilateral cooperation to boost energy efficiency, adopt renewable energy solutions, and integrate cutting-edge desalination technologies. Participants included notable entities such as the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, Khalifa University, Sharjah University, New York University Abu Dhabi, alongside several prestigious Japanese companies and universities. This gathering underscored the UAE's commitment to its Water Security Strategy 2036 through showcasing its premier desalination projects and smart management technologies.

Ahmed Al Kaabi, the Assistant Under-Secretary for the Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector at MoEI, highlighted the flourishing relationship between the UAE and Japan. He attributed this growth to a mutual vision and trust that have deepened over recent years. Al Kaabi emphasized the importance of such collaborations in meeting the escalating water needs due to population growth in various regions of the UAE. "Such meetings reflect the joint desire of both countries to expand the scope of cooperation between them," Al Kaabi remarked, underlining the strategic importance of these dialogues.
The session not only served as a platform for sharing experiences and best practices but also as a testament to the strong diplomatic and technological ties between the UAE and Japan. By exploring ways to improve energy efficiency and leverage new desalination technologies, both nations are setting a precedent for international cooperation in sustainable development.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the UAE to lead in sustainable energy and water resource management on a global scale. Through such international collaborations, the UAE reinforces its position as a hub for innovation in renewable energy and desalination technology, contributing significantly towards achieving global water security objectives.
