UAE Commemorates International Day Of Charity, Highlighting Global Humanitarian Efforts
The UAE will observe the International Day of Charity on 5th September, reinforcing its dedication to humanitarian and developmental efforts worldwide. Charitable work is a longstanding tradition in the UAE, deeply embedded since the Union's inception. The nation has consistently aided those in need, offering disaster relief and fostering global solidarity during crises, wars, and conflicts.
In line with the Ninth Principle of the Principles of the 50, which underscores foreign humanitarian aid as a core aspect of its vision, the UAE's foreign aid value exceeded AED360 billion (US$98 billion) by mid-2024. This principle highlights the country's moral obligation towards less fortunate communities globally.
This year, the UAE spearheads international efforts to support Palestinians in Gaza through "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3". Additionally, over the past decade, more than US$3.5 billion in aid has been provided to Sudan. By February last year, over 1.2 million Ukrainians had benefited from UAE humanitarian and relief assistance.
In response to natural disasters, the UAE extended aid to Chad in January 2025. This included 30,000 food baskets and over 20,000 blankets to alleviate flood impacts. Similarly, 700 tonnes of urgent food supplies were sent to flood-hit areas in Somalia. Aid was also dispatched to Myanmar for nearly 80,000 earthquake-affected individuals.
On 1st September, urgent humanitarian assistance was announced for 960 families affected by floods on Yemen’s West Coast. The aid comprised shelter tents, food supplies, and essential relief items to help families endure difficult conditions and ease their suffering during these challenging times.
The UAE Aid Agency collaborated with Chad's government to establish Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Hospital and a dialysis centre in N'Djamena. This initiative aims to deliver advanced health services and therapeutic care for dialysis patients in Chad's capital.
Initiatives with Global Impact
This year also witnessed several impactful humanitarian initiatives launched by the UAE. Among them is the Fathers’ Endowment campaign. Part of its proceeds will fund healthcare and treatment for underprivileged individuals while supporting health systems in less fortunate communities by developing hospitals and securing medicines.
The UAE's commitment to charitable work remains unwavering as it continues to extend support globally through various initiatives aimed at alleviating suffering and improving lives across different regions.
