UAE Marks International Day Of Human Fraternity And Global Tolerance Initiatives
The United Arab Emirates is observing the International Day of Human Fraternity by highlighting its ongoing efforts to advance tolerance, equal rights, and peaceful coexistence. The occasion recalls the signing of the "Human Fraternity Document" on 4th February 2019 in Abu Dhabi, an event that reshaped international dialogue on interfaith and intercultural understanding.
Since that signing, the UAE has presented itself as a platform for initiatives that seek to reduce tensions between cultures and religions. The country continues to link its domestic and foreign policies with values of dialogue, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, in line with the principles stated in the "Human Fraternity Document".

One of the most visible projects inspired by the "Human Fraternity Document" is the Abrahamic Family House on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. The complex includes a mosque, a church, and a synagogue within one shared site, symbolising cooperation and respect among the three Abrahamic faiths through a permanent architectural presence.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity stands among the UAE’s key efforts to encourage peaceful coexistence and tolerance worldwide. The award is named after the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and reflects his legacy of dialogue and humanitarian outreach, especially across different cultures and religious communities.
In its 7th edition in 2026, the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity honoured Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia. Their recognition related to a historic peace agreement between the two countries that aimed to end a long period of conflict.
The same edition also recognised Afghan girls’ education advocate Zarqa Yaftali and the Palestinian non-profit humanitarian organisation "Taawon." Their selection highlighted efforts to improve education opportunities for girls in Afghanistan and to support humanitarian and development work for Palestinian communities through organised, community-based programmes.
Beyond awards and landmarks, the UAE hosts the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace, which focuses on humanitarian challenges linked to intellectual and sectarian disputes within Muslim societies. The country also organises the annual Global Tolerance and Human Fraternity Conference, held this year under the theme "Human Fraternity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," with more than 180 international speakers and over 400 religious leaders, thinkers, and participants attending.
