UAE And Indonesia Boost Strategic Partnership With New MoUs

President Joko Widodo of Indonesia recently visited the UAE, meeting with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This visit has been widely covered by Indonesian media, highlighting the robust relationship between the two nations and the UAE's significant role as a partner for Indonesia in the Middle East.

Indonesian news agency (ANTARA) provided extensive coverage of the visit, focusing on discussions between the leaders and the signing of various Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements. These agreements aim to enhance cooperation in sectors such as tourism, economics, and energy, further solidifying the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the UAE.

The Republika Online emphasised the importance of talks held at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. The discussions centred on climate cooperation and clean energy initiatives. President Widodo expressed gratitude for the UAE's investment support, particularly in developing Indonesia's Cirata floating solar plant, which has a capacity of up to 500MW and is Southeast Asia's largest.

Bali Post highlighted that the meeting aimed to explore ways to boost cooperation across various fields, especially in economics. Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi was quoted affirming that the UAE remains one of Indonesia's key partners in the Middle East.

Additionally, President Widodo welcomed laying the foundation stone for the Mohamed bin Zayed-Joko Widodo International Mangrove Research Centre in Bali. This collaboration also includes plans to establish a nuclear power plant, showcasing a commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Recognition and Honour

Berita Satu reported that President Widodo received the "Order of Zayed," which is the highest civilian honour granted by the UAE. This award was bestowed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed in recognition of Widodo's efforts to strengthen ties between Indonesia and the UAE during his ten-year presidency.

Sheikh Mohamed remarked that this honour reflects personal esteem for President Widodo and acknowledges his significant contributions to enhancing bilateral relations. The award also honours Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's legacy, who is remembered globally for his humanitarian values.

President Widodo expressed pride in receiving this prestigious award. He noted that it symbolises not only his personal achievements but also celebrates the exceptional relationship between Indonesia and the UAE.

The Indonesian media unanimously highlighted these developments as pivotal moments that underscore both countries' commitment to fostering stronger ties and collaborative efforts across multiple sectors.
