UAE To Host Second Gulf Metrology Forum In Dubai With Emphasis On Sustainability

The United Arab Emirates is poised to become the focal point for global metrology experts with the announcement of the second Gulf Metrology Forum scheduled for 22nd-23rd April in Dubai. This significant event, co-organized by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and the GULF Association for Metrology (GULFMET), and sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, represented by the Emirates Metrology Institute, aims to spotlight the essential role of metrology in driving sustainability and economic growth.

Under the banner "Metrology for Sustainability," the forum will serve as a platform to underscore the importance of precise and reliable measurements across various sectors including industry, healthcare, energy, and the environment. The gathering seeks to not only enhance product and service quality but also to stimulate innovation and competitive product development through the exchange of knowledge on the latest metrology trends.

UAE's Metrology Forum Focuses on Green Growth

The UAE's commitment to quality infrastructure is evident in its top ranking within the MENA region and 11th globally on the Quality Infrastructure for Sustainable Development Index (QI4SD), a testament to its leadership in standards and sustainable development. This prestigious forum precedes World Metrology Day, celebrated on 20th May 2024, aligning with this year's theme of sustainability.

The agenda of the Second Gulf Metrology Forum is comprehensive, covering topics from metrology and quality infrastructure to strategic directions in sustainability for both the UAE and GCC. The event promises a rich exchange of ideas and innovations among metrology experts, with demonstrations set to showcase cutting-edge developments in measurement techniques. This initiative not only aims at lowering trade barriers but also at fostering a conducive environment for innovation.

Highlighting its international significance, the forum will feature contributions from key global and regional metrology organizations including the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM), the International Organisation for Legal Metrology (OIML), and the International Metrology Confederation (IMEKO), among others. This collaborative effort underscores the critical role of metrology in global standardization efforts and sustainable development.

A special session dedicated to emerging metrology professionals aligns with BIPM’s Young Metrologist 2050+ initiative, emphasizing the vital contribution of the younger generation in shaping the future landscape of metrology.

Empowering Participants Through Workshops

The forum will also offer three specialized workshops aimed at enhancing participants' skills and knowledge in key areas of metrology. These workshops will cover topics such as Calibration of Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments and Devices, Chemical and Biological Metrology, and Verification of Pre-Packaged Products, supported by leading organizations like GSO, BIPM, and OIML respectively.

This convergence of experts and stakeholders in Dubai underscores a collective ambition towards leveraging metrology for sustainable development. By fostering a dialogue on innovation, quality improvement, and sustainability, the Second Gulf Metrology Forum sets a precedent for future collaborations in advancing global standards for measurement accuracy.
