UAE To Host World Maritime Day Parallel Event In 2025 With Focus On Ocean Sustainability

The UAE, through its Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), took part in the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in Spain. This gathering, organised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), brought together global maritime leaders to discuss sea safety amid evolving challenges and risks. Hessa Al Malek, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport and Affairs at MoEI, led the UAE delegation.

During the event, Al Malek received the IMO flag as a symbol of the UAE hosting the World Maritime Day Parallel Event in 2025. She expressed enthusiasm about hosting this event under the theme "Our Ocean - Our Obligation - Our Opportunity." This theme aligns with the UAE's dedication to ocean protection while recognising economic and environmental opportunities.

Al Malek emphasised that oceans are vital to global trade, providing jobs and housing marine life. They are crucial for absorbing carbon emissions. Shipping plays a key role in protecting marine environments and managing ocean resources. She stressed the need for collaboration to ensure a sustainable and regulated shipping industry.

The UAE is recognised as a leading maritime hub globally due to its progressive practices and legislation. These advancements enhance safety standards and contribute to international marine environment protection. The country is focused on developing clean, climate-friendly maritime solutions for sustainability.
