UAE Leads Global Humanitarian Efforts In 2024 With AED20 Billion Commitment

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has consistently demonstrated its dedication to promoting global solidarity and humanitarian cooperation through a range of initiatives. In 2024, the UAE significantly contributed to worldwide humanitarian efforts with numerous impactful projects.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan initiated the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, allocating AED20 billion for humanitarian work in vulnerable communities globally. This initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to addressing pressing global challenges.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launched the Mothers’ Endowment campaign. This campaign established an AED1 billion fund to support education and training for millions worldwide, honouring mothers' pivotal roles.

As part of a strategic partnership with the G20, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced a US$100 million contribution to the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty through the UAE Aid Agency. This initiative aims to combat hunger and poverty on a global scale.

The Reaching the Last Mile Initiative, driven by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's philanthropy, committed AED55 million to the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE). This funding supports efforts to eliminate diseases affecting vulnerable populations.

In Gaza, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 launched an urgent vaccination campaign targeting over 640,000 children against polio. Additionally, the UAE provided humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and water infrastructure assistance benefiting over one million people in Gaza.

In Lebanon, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed directed a US$100 million emergency relief package and initiated the "UAE Stands with Lebanon" campaign. The UAE also extended US$30 million to assist displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria.

In April, the UAE pledged US$100 million for humanitarian efforts in Sudan and neighbouring countries. In Chad, new initiatives were introduced alongside a US$10.25 million contribution to support Sudanese refugee women affected by ongoing crises.

The UAE continued its global humanitarian presence by providing relief to those affected by natural disasters worldwide. Assistance was extended to countries like Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mauritania, Nigeria, Nepal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.

A commitment of US$50 million was made by the UAE for the second phase of Lives and Livelihoods Fund 2.0 (LLF 2.0). This multi-donor development initiative supports Islamic Development Bank member countries in creating sustainable pathways out of poverty.

The UAE's extensive contributions highlight its unwavering commitment to fostering international solidarity through impactful humanitarian initiatives across diverse regions worldwide.
