UAE Inspires Global Cooperation To Accelerate Climate Action Together At COP29 In Baku
The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) commenced in Baku, Azerbaijan, with wide international participation. The event aims to enhance global climate action by aligning priorities with practical capabilities. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, COP28 President, concluded his term with a call for action and positivity among all 198 Parties. He emphasized that progress continues beyond the UAE Consensus reached last year.
Dr. Sultan urged all participants to unite purposefully and responsibly to achieve meaningful outcomes. He stressed the importance of implementing the UAE Consensus by establishing a strong New Collective Quantified Goal on climate finance at COP29. "When sectors work together, we can lift economies and lower emissions," he stated, highlighting the potential for both climate and socioeconomic advancements.

At 13:00 AZT on Wednesday, discussions will focus on enhancing climate finance to support global resilience. Majid Al Suwaidi, CEO of ALTERRA, will lead this session exploring partnerships and funding pathways for sustainable development and low-carbon growth. Special guests include Maria Kozloski from the Rockefeller Foundation and James Birch from the Gates Foundation.
On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, programming at the UAE Pavilion will feature diverse events. At 11:00 AZT, Tadweer Group will host a session on waste management opportunities in Abu Dhabi. Later at 14:15 AZT, a dialogue will address transitioning away from fossil fuels with representatives from the UAE, Azerbaijan, and Brazil discussing equitable energy transitions.
The UAE is leading efforts in water resiliency through innovation and collaboration. On Wednesday morning at 08:00 AZT, an event titled "Securing Tomorrow" will focus on strategies for clean water access and sustainable management globally. Shaima Gargash from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host this session featuring Gary White of Water.Org and George Richards of Community Jameel.
The UAE's commitment to water issues extends to co-hosting the UN Water Conference with Senegal in 2026. This initiative aims to implement Sustainable Development Goal 6 by building global water resiliency for all communities facing water stress.
Scaling Weather Services for Farmers
Agriculture Innovation Mechanism for Scale (AIM for Scale), a partnership between the UAE and Gates Foundation, will be highlighted at 15:30 AZT. This session focuses on expanding access to quality weather forecasts for farmers in low- and middle-income countries to enhance their resilience against climate challenges.
