UAE Attends Global Alliance Meeting On Two-State Solution In Riyadh, Emphasising Humanitarian Aid

The United Arab Emirates recently took part in a significant meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, hosted by Saudi Arabia. This two-day event in Riyadh from 30-31 October saw participation from 94 countries and international organisations. Keynote speeches were delivered by H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister, and Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of UNRWA.

The UAE delegation was led by Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the conference, Nusseibeh praised Saudi Arabia's efforts in promoting international cooperation towards achieving the Two-State Solution. She emphasised the UAE’s dedication to a peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

Nusseibeh highlighted the UAE's commitment to humanitarian aid in Gaza and called for unrestricted access to aid. She expressed concern over Gaza's worsening humanitarian situation, especially in the north where 400,000 people lack aid. She cited alerts indicating that over 1.8 million people face severe food insecurity.

She condemned laws targeting UNRWA's essential work and stressed that its staff and premises are protected under international law. Nusseibeh also reiterated calls for civilian protection amid ongoing conflicts.

In her discussions in Riyadh, Nusseibeh addressed rising tensions and military conflict escalation in the region. She urged an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and demanded the release of all hostages and detainees. The UAE expressed deep concern about developments in Lebanon affecting regional stability.

Nusseibeh reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while supporting its people during these challenging times.

Addressing Hate Speech and Violence

The UAE highlighted concerns over incitement and hate speech exacerbating conflict impacts, particularly settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. The UAE pointed to frameworks like United Nations Security Council Resolution 2686 (2023) as tools to counter hate speech, extremism, and intolerance.

This resolution outlines ways states can collaborate to address these threats effectively.

The UAE remains committed to fostering peace through dialogue while addressing humanitarian needs and regional stability challenges. Their participation underscores a continued effort towards achieving lasting solutions for peace in the Middle East.
