UAE Strengthens Global Leadership In Artificial Intelligence With Focus On Human Capital And Training Initiatives

The United Arab Emirates is solidifying its leadership in Artificial Intelligence (AI) by focusing on developing national expertise. Through strategic initiatives, the UAE aims to build human capital and prepare experts for digital transformation. The country's approach places people at the centre of its technological vision, ensuring a future-ready workforce.

Educational institutions, research centres, and both public and private sectors are collaborating to create an integrated system. This system empowers talent through education, training, research, and practical application in key sectors. At the forefront of these efforts is the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). As the world's first graduate-level institution focused solely on AI advancement, MBZUAI seeks to empower future AI pioneers through top-tier education and multidisciplinary research.

The UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence aims to accelerate development by relying on AI for all services and data analysis by 2031. This strategy enhances government performance and fosters innovative work environments. International studies rank the UAE among the most advanced countries globally in AI adoption at government and institutional levels.

The "Government AI Readiness Index 2024" from Oxford Insights places the UAE first in the region and 13th globally for AI preparedness. Additionally, a McKinsey & Company report highlights the UAE's progress in training its workforce in generative AI through various programmes.

Microsoft reports that 59.4 percent of the UAE population already uses AI tools, positioning it as a global model for digital competency development. Experts acknowledge the UAE's significant role in AI adoption and building skilled professionals.

Randa Bessiso from the University of Manchester – Dubai states that the UAE is a global leader in shaping AI's future. She notes that the country recognised early on that AI is not just technological evolution but also an economic driver. The UAE's understanding of AI's value lies in human capital development.
