UAE Federal Tax Authority Issues Taxpayer Charter Highlighting Key Rights And Obligations
In a significant move to enhance the transparency and clarity of the UAE tax system, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has unveiled the Taxpayer Charter. This pivotal document delineates a comprehensive list of rights and responsibilities for taxpayers within the nation, marking a key step in the Authority's ongoing mission to educate and ensure adherence to tax regulations.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, the FTA Director-General, emphasized the Charter's role in reinforcing the FTA's commitment to its foundational duties. These include not only upholding the highest standards of transparency and clarity in the UAE tax framework but also facilitating the smooth and efficient enforcement of all related laws and regulations. "The introduction of the Taxpayer Charter is a critical advancement towards our goal of informing stakeholders about their entitlements and duties within the system," Al Bustani stated.

The Charter explicitly outlines taxpayers' rights, including receiving fair, professional, and respectful treatment from the FTA and its personnel. It guarantees the consistent application of tax laws, assures privacy and confidentiality, and promises careful consideration of individual circumstances by the Authority. Additionally, it asserts taxpayers' rights to prompt responses from the FTA, access to accurate information for fulfilling their tax obligations, representation by authorized Tax Agents or legal representatives, avenues to appeal FTA decisions, and mechanisms to lodge complaints regarding Authority services.
Conversely, it places an onus on taxpayers to comply fully with all relevant tax obligations, provide complete and accurate information timely, cooperate with and respect the FTA and its staff, and support the Authority's anti-tax evasion measures.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the FTA to heighten awareness about the UAE tax system's nuances. The Authority has been actively conducting awareness campaigns and workshops across all emirates, spearheaded by FTA experts. These educational endeavors are complemented by a variety of manuals, guidelines, and Public Clarifications available on the FTA’s official website.
The Taxpayer Charter thus stands as a testament to the UAE Government's directive towards operational excellence, aiming to foster a transparent tax environment while elevating service quality offered to customers by the Authority.
