UAE Food Bank Celebrates Strategic Partners And Volunteers For Their Contributions In 2024

The UAE Food Bank, under the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, recently held its annual ceremony to honour those who have supported its initiatives. This event celebrated the contributions of various entities and individuals, including government bodies, charities, hotels, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds. Their efforts have been crucial in advancing the Food Bank's mission throughout the year.

In 2024, the UAE Food Bank distributed over 24 million meals in just nine months. This marked a 93% increase compared to the same period last year. The daily distribution rate surpassed 90,000 meals, exceeding the organisation's annual goals. These efforts aim to promote kindness, sustainability, and social responsibility while enhancing food security and reducing waste.

The UAE Food Bank managed to divert more than 9 million meals from landfills, preventing 3,700 tonnes of food waste. This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also reduces carbon emissions significantly. The organisation's actions contribute to social and economic sustainability by efficiently managing surplus food and redistributing it locally and globally.

The Food Bank's success is attributed to its collaboration with 925 strategic partners and donors. These include food establishments, hotels, companies, and over 5,000 volunteers. Together, they have impacted more than 24.5 million people worldwide. The organisation also worked with Nimah to reduce food wastage by 47% at participating hotels between 2022 and 2024.

During Ramadan, the UAE Food Bank launched several initiatives under the '5 Million Meals Initiative.' These included 'Food Baskets,' 'Your Breakfast with Us,' and an iftar for workers at Zabeel Park in Dubai. In response to extreme weather conditions caused by the ‘Al Hadeer’ depression, it provided over 114,000 meals to affected individuals.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives

Through its No Waste Ramadan initiative, training programmes were conducted for hotel employees worldwide. This led to a significant reduction in food wastage by distributing sorting bins in kitchens. As a result, over 400 tonnes of food were diverted from landfills. Additionally, non-perishable food was recycled into compost supporting local farms.

Dawoud Al Hajri highlighted that these achievements reflect the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian work and values like charity and solidarity ingrained in society. He stated that the UAE Food Bank embodies these principles as a leading institution dedicated to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing food aid globally.

Community Engagement and Awareness Programmes

The UAE Food Bank conducted numerous awareness programmes involving community members and food facility workers. These initiatives aimed at promoting better food preservation practices and reducing wastage effectively engaged over 3,400 participants. Furthermore, new partnership agreements were signed to bolster strategic collaborations supporting its mission.

Al Hajri expressed gratitude towards all partners who contributed towards achieving noble goals through their collective efforts: "We appreciate the efforts of all strategic partners... Their collective efforts... have made a significant impact." The UAE Food Bank remains committed to delivering sustenance worldwide while upholding core values such as humaneness and philanthropy.
