Parliamentary Cooperation Between UAE And Iraq, China, Belarus And Lithuania Elevated, Says Ghobash

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, held separate meetings in Abu Dhabi with the ambassadors of Iraq, China, Belarus and Lithuania. The discussions addressed strengthening bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation with the UAE. The talks also focused on coordination over shared regional and international issues, reflecting the growing role of parliamentary diplomacy in the country’s foreign relations.

The meetings reviewed practical mechanisms to expand cooperation across political, economic, cultural, educational and investment fields. Participants examined how stronger parliamentary cooperation can support these ties. They highlighted regular exchanges of parliamentary delegations and experience-sharing as important tools. The discussions also underlined the value of consultation between the Federal National Council and the parliaments of partner countries.

During talks with Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Ghobash focused on developing UAE‑China parliamentary cooperation within the existing strategic partnership. Ghobash noted that relations between the UAE and China are deep and long-term. Both sides stressed mutual interest in expanding cooperation across all sectors, including politics, economy, culture, education and investment, along with other vital areas important to both states.

Ghobash praised Zhang Yiming’s contribution during the ambassador’s tenure in the UAE. The Speaker highlighted Zhang Yiming’s role in supporting UAE‑China bilateral cooperation across several sectors. Ghobash stated that these efforts helped serve the shared interests of both countries. He also wished Zhang Yiming continued success in upcoming responsibilities after completing the diplomatic assignment in the UAE.

In a separate meeting with Dr. Muzaffar Mustafa Al Jubouri, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, Ghobash discussed ways to deepen UAE‑Iraq parliamentary cooperation and broader bilateral relations. The talks covered different sectors where both countries see opportunities for joint work. Ghobash referred to the longstanding fraternal and historical ties between the two states and peoples, and the importance of maintaining their momentum.

Ghobash commended Dr. Muzaffar Mustafa Al Jubouri for efforts that supported fraternal relations between the UAE and Iraq. The Speaker explained that the diplomatic mission played a key role in consolidating cooperation during the ambassador’s term. Ghobash expressed appreciation for these contributions and wished Al Jubouri success in future duties, marking the conclusion of the ambassador’s service in the UAE.

When meeting Igor Bely, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, Ghobash emphasised that UAE‑Belarus relations rely on firm foundations of friendship and cooperation. He pointed to the strong ties between the leaderships of both countries, which created momentum in bilateral relations. Ghobash noted that the UAE has become a strategic partner for Belarus within the Gulf Cooperation Council and the wider regional context.

The discussions with Igor Bely also referred to agreements and memoranda of understanding that support economic cooperation between the UAE and Belarus. These instruments provide a base for joint projects and increased trade. They also reflect shared interest in stable, long-term cooperation at governmental and parliamentary levels, aligned with wider regional economic goals.

During talks with Ramūnas Davidonis, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania, Ghobash underlined the importance of further developing bilateral, economic and parliamentary relations. He called for regular meetings of the parliamentary friendship committee between the UAE and Lithuania. Ghobash described this mechanism as essential for deepening bilateral ties, advancing parliamentary cooperation and sharing legislative experience between the two institutions.

The meeting with Ramūnas Davidonis also highlighted how stronger parliamentary and bilateral relations can support wider economic cooperation. Areas identified for joint work included artificial intelligence, innovation, tourism and sustainable development projects. These domains align with strategies that encourage growth in new economy sectors and support sustainable development in the UAE, consistent with the vision and directives of the country’s leadership.
