UAE's Floating Hospital Docks In Egypt To Provide Aid To Palestinians
The United Arab Emirates has taken a significant step in providing medical assistance to the people of Gaza by docking its floating hospital at Al Arish Port, Egypt. This initiative is in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and is part of the ‘Gallant Knight 3’ humanitarian operation. The hospital is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Defence, Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), and AD Ports Group, showcasing the UAE's commitment to supporting those in need.
The floating hospital boasts a comprehensive team of 100 medical and administrative staff across various specialties such as anaesthesia, general surgery, orthopaedics, and emergency medicine, alongside nurses and paramedics. With a capacity of 100 beds, the facility is well-equipped with operating and intensive care rooms, a radiology unit, a laboratory, a pharmacy, and medical cabinets to provide a wide range of medical services.

This maritime medical facility complements the UAE's integrated field hospital, which was inaugurated on 3rd December 2023. The field hospital has a medical staff of 83 volunteers from 21 nationalities and has treated over 6,146 cases by February 24th, 2024. These cases include life-saving surgeries, intensive care, consultations, and other medical services.
Dr. Falah Almahmoud, Director of the Floating Hospital, emphasized that the arrival of this medical facility enhances the UAE's support system for Gaza. He highlighted that the hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to provide high-standard treatment and care. "The hospital has begun receiving injured and Palestinian patients immediately upon its arrival at the port of the Egyptian city of Al Arish," Dr. Almahmoud stated, underscoring the immediate impact of this initiative.
The floating hospital also features a helipad and a marine boat to facilitate rapid response to emergency cases requiring swift medical intervention. This addition significantly boosts the hospital's capability to provide urgent care.
Palestinian patients who have received treatment at the floating hospital expressed their gratitude towards the United Arab Emirates and its leadership for this humanitarian gesture. They praised the comprehensive medical care provided and highlighted how this initiative reflects the UAE's steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in all circumstances. The efforts of the medical teams and volunteers were also commended for their unwavering support since the onset of the crisis.
This initiative not only showcases the UAE's dedication to humanitarian aid but also sets a benchmark for international standards in providing medical assistance in crisis situations. The floating hospital serves as a beacon of hope for many Palestinians, offering them much-needed medical care amidst challenging times.
