UAE Floating Hospital In Al-Arish Treats Over 7,700 Palestinians In Its First Year
The UAE Floating Hospital, stationed in Al-Arish, Egypt, has provided extensive medical services to Palestinians displaced from Gaza. In its inaugural year, the hospital treated over 7,700 patients and performed more than 2,700 surgeries. Additionally, it conducted over 3,000 physiotherapy sessions and fitted 23 prosthetic limbs. This initiative is part of the UAE’s humanitarian effort known as ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3’.
Operational since 24th February 2024 at Al-Arish Port, the hospital offers continuous medical care. An Emirati team collaborates with Indonesian medical staff to deliver these services. The facility includes advanced surgical units, intensive care units, a radiology department, and laboratories. It can accommodate up to 100 patients and an additional 100 relatives.
The hospital has successfully performed complex procedures over the past year. These include laparoscopic surgeries for patients with severe injuries. The addition of a physiotherapy department allows for up to 15 surgeries and 25 physiotherapy sessions daily. Over 3,000 physiotherapy sessions have been conducted since its inception.
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Director of the UAE Floating Hospital, stated: "With the dedication of specialised medical teams and state-of-the-art equipment, we have treated thousands of patients and performed hundreds of critical surgeries. Beyond healthcare services, the hospital organises social activities aimed at boosting morale among patients. Programmes for children are included to provide hope and uplift spirits. The facility has also welcomed visits from various delegations and officials from both Emirati and international backgrounds.
