UAE Launches First Green Innovation District At Expo City Dubai To Promote Sustainable Development

The UAE's Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in collaboration with Expo City Dubai, has unveiled the nation's first Green Innovation District. This initiative aims to integrate economic growth with environmental sustainability and social responsibility. The district is designed to attract global businesses, supporting the UAE's economic diversification and climate action goals as outlined in the Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

Expo City Dubai is strategically positioned between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, making it an ideal location for the Green Innovation District. Its sustainable infrastructure and proximity to key logistics hubs like Jebel Ali Port enhance its appeal for global trade. The district will support eco-friendly businesses focused on clean energy, circular economy, and green technology.

Their involvement supports sustainable industrial growth and advances circular economy solutions within the district. Nestlé's legacy in research and innovation aligns with the district's mission of fostering green transition.

Palmade, a Dubai-based manufacturer, exemplifies circular innovation by converting discarded date palm leaves into biodegradable products. Their move to Expo City Dubai marks a significant step in scaling production and introducing new sustainable product lines. This transition supports Palmade’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future.

The UAE’s National Corporate Social Responsibility Fund, Majra, will guide environmental projects to set up in the district through initiatives like ‘Sustainable Impact Challenge’. This effort aims to create a national platform that merges sustainable innovation with responsible investment.

An IP Office will also be established at Expo City to promote research and development.

Infrastructure Designed for Sustainability

Expo City's master plan is pre-certified Platinum under LEED Cities and Communities standard. It also targets WELL Gold certification for health and wellbeing standards across its buildings.
