UAE Achieves Global Leadership With 99.5% Fibre-to-Home Network Coverage
The United Arab Emirates has achieved a remarkable milestone in fibre-to-the-home network coverage, reaching 99.5 percent. This achievement keeps the UAE as the top-ranked country globally since 2016, according to the FTTH Council Europe's annual report based on 2024 data. The UAE surpassed the Republic of Korea, which came second with 96.6 percent, and China, which ranked third at 93.6 percent.
e& UAE plays a pivotal role in advancing the telecommunications sector within the country. It boasts the highest fixed broadband penetration rate nationwide. Its extensive fibre-optic infrastructure covers over 14.5 million kilometres, equivalent to more than 360 times Earth's circumference. This network provides high-speed connectivity to over 2.88 million homes across the UAE.

This achievement reflects e& UAE’s dedication to its "Fiber-First" strategy, which places fibre-optic technology at the core of its vision for delivering premium connectivity experiences. By focusing on this approach, e& UAE continues to enhance its position as a leading internet service provider, combining speed, efficiency and reliability.
Masood M. Sharif Mahmood, CEO of e& UAE, highlighted that this accomplishment is more than just a statistic. "It is the result of consistent efforts that began in 1986," he stated when fibre-optic technology was first introduced into the UAE’s transport network. Abu Dhabi became the first capital globally to be fully covered by a fibre-optic network in 2011.
e& UAE is committed to expanding fibre-optic coverage throughout the nation using innovative solutions like Fibre-to-the-Yacht (FTTY) service for yachts in marinas and Fibre-to-the-Room (FTTR) service for homes. These services provide high-speed internet and enhanced wireless network coverage, making them ideal for smart homes and tech-reliant users.
This global milestone underscores e& UAE’s commitment to being a key digital transformation partner. It reinforces the UAE’s leadership in technology by providing an advanced digital infrastructure that supports smart transformation and enhances quality of life.
The efforts align with objectives set by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority to solidify the UAE’s status as a global hub for connectivity. This initiative enhances the country's capacity to keep pace with digital advancements and accelerates digital transformation.
