UAE Collaborates With WHO To Evacuate 210 Patients From Gaza For Critical Medical Care

The United Arab Emirates, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), has successfully evacuated 86 critically injured individuals from the Gaza Strip. This group, which includes children and cancer patients requiring urgent care, was accompanied by 124 family members. They were transported to Abu Dhabi from Ramon Airport in Israel via the Kerem Shalom crossing for essential medical treatment. This marks the UAE's twenty-second evacuation mission.

Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organisations, commented on this initiative. He stated: "This new initiative reflects the strong levels of cooperation between the UAE and the World Health Organization, and exemplifies the UAE's steadfast and enduring commitment to support the brotherly Palestinians amidst the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip."

Al Shamsi further emphasised their dedication to working with international partners. "We remain resolute in our collaboration with the United Nations, international partners, and relief organisations, and we will continue to extensively undertake a leading and pioneering role in providing advanced healthcare to wounded Palestinians and those suffering from incurable diseases. We are steadfastly supporting endeavours to alleviate this humanitarian crisis using all available means."

This evacuation aligns with an initiative by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The goal is to treat 1,000 wounded children and 1,000 cancer patients in UAE hospitals. So far, 2,127 patients and their companions have been brought to the UAE for treatment.

The UAE has made significant efforts to deliver advanced healthcare services to Palestinians who are ill or severely injured. Since December 2nd, 2023, when operations began at the UAE Field Hospital in southern Gaza Strip, 50,489 cases have been treated. Additionally, since February 2024, a hospital ship anchored at Al-Arish Port has provided care for 6,405 cases.

In addition to medical evacuations and treatments, the UAE has supplied over 43,000 tonnes of urgent aid. This aid includes food supplies as well as medical and relief materials for Palestinian people facing dire circumstances.

The ongoing initiatives by the UAE highlight its unwavering support for Palestinians during this humanitarian crisis. By providing critical medical assistance and supplies, they aim to alleviate suffering and improve health outcomes for those affected by conflict in Gaza.
