UAE And EU Strengthen Ties With A Focus On Cooperation And Regional Peace
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently met with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in Abu Dhabi. Luigi Di Maio, EU Special Representative for the Gulf region, was also present at the meeting.
During their discussions, they explored ways to enhance cooperation between the UAE and the European Union across various sectors. The aim is to support shared goals of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
The meeting also covered preparations for the upcoming EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Brussels next October. This summit is seen as crucial for advancing cooperation between the GCC and the EU.
Sheikh Abdullah welcomed Borrell and Di Maio's visit, highlighting that UAE-EU relations are deep-rooted and advanced. He emphasised that these relations are based on mutual understanding and shared interests, contributing to peace and development regionally and internationally.
The two sides also discussed regional developments, including the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. They talked about efforts to secure a sustainable ceasefire to help alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis faced by residents of Gaza.
Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's support for all regional and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire. He stressed the country's commitment to cooperating with the European Union and other international parties to address the crisis affecting civilians in Gaza.
Commitment to Peace
He also noted that achieving comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution is key to establishing stability and sustainable security in the Middle East. This would fulfil the aspirations of its people for prosperity and dignified life.
The meeting was attended by Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs.
The discussions underscored both parties' dedication to strengthening ties and addressing pressing regional issues collaboratively. The focus remains on fostering peace, stability, and development through mutual cooperation.
