UAE Highlights Energy Transition Efforts During G20 Meetings In South Africa
The UAE, through its Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, recently joined the third G20 Energy Transitions Working Group meeting in South Africa. This participation aligns with the UAE's global initiatives to advance energy transition efforts, implement outcomes from COP28, and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
During the gathering, the Ministry emphasised the UAE's significant progress in transforming its energy sector. The focus was on enhancing energy efficiency and creating a balanced energy mix to ensure security and sustainable development. These efforts are part of the country's broader strategy for a sustainable future.

In a session dedicated to energy efficiency, the Ministry presented national initiatives aimed at doubling improvements in this area. These efforts align with the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), which the UAE launched to promote efficient energy use worldwide. The alliance encourages sharing best practices and collaboration between public and private sectors.
The UAE has established the GEEA to fast-track global adoption of energy-efficient solutions. This initiative supports countries in crafting effective policies and legislation to enhance energy use across various sectors. It also fosters international cooperation for a more sustainable future.
The Ministry also participated in a joint session between the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The theme was ‘Nuclear Energy for Africa,’ where the UAE shared its pioneering experience in developing a safe nuclear energy program. This positions the UAE as a model for supporting developing nations in equitable energy transitions.
This session highlighted how nuclear energy can be harnessed safely and peacefully, offering insights into how developing countries can benefit from such programs. The UAE's approach serves as an example for other nations aiming to adopt similar pathways.
By participating in these discussions, the UAE reaffirms its dedication to advancing global sustainability efforts. The country continues to champion initiatives that support efficient energy use and sustainable development worldwide.
