The Emirates Human Rights Association (EHRA) recently hosted a symposium titled "United for Humanity and Dignity," aligning with the United Nations' initiative to observe the World Day of Social Justice. This event, in collaboration with the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT), the Ministry of Interior, and various national and civil society organizations, underscored the UAE's dedication to eliminating human trafficking. The symposium served as a platform to explore the multifaceted approach required to combat human trafficking and support victim rehabilitation.
The gathering addressed all forms of exploitation linked to human trafficking, such as sexual exploitation, sale, begging, forced labor, and other exploitative practices. It showcased the UAE's efforts through initiatives, programs, and projects aimed at tackling this issue. The NCCHT's five-point strategy, which includes prevention, prosecution, punishment, protection, and promotion of international cooperation, was highlighted as a cornerstone of the global fight against human trafficking.

One of the key focuses of the symposium was on the vital role played by civil society organizations in combating this crime and providing care and protection for victims. The involvement of the Sawa'id Al Khair Association was particularly noted. Experts and officials from various institutions offered in-depth insights into the crime of human trafficking, strategies for monitoring related crimes, and the national system for victim protection. They shared stories that underscored the UAE's commitment to victim care and reintegration.
The UAE has established a network of shelters dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating victims of human trafficking. It has also entered into agreements with several countries to share best practices on prevention and victim assistance. Furthermore, the UAE actively participates in regional and international efforts to counter human trafficking and consistently engages with the Arab Human Rights Commission Charter Committee on these issues.
The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at bolstering the state's anti-trafficking efforts. These included enhancing the role of civil society in awareness programs, creating a local database for electronic linkage with relevant authorities, establishing electronic communication channels for stakeholders, shortening litigation periods, improving media content, promoting education, and enhancing training for personnel.
In a gesture of recognition, Sheikha Najla Al Qasimi honored experts and researchers from the UAE for their contributions towards combating human trafficking. The Emirates Human Rights Association reaffirmed its commitment to regularly hosting this event as part of its ongoing efforts to fight human trafficking and foster a culture of human rights within the country.
Overall, the "United for Humanity and Dignity" symposium not only highlighted the UAE's steadfast commitment to eradicating human trafficking but also emphasized the critical role of civil society organizations. It provided a comprehensive overview of strategies for combating human trafficking and stressed the importance of protecting and caring for victims.
