UAE And Egypt's Birds Of Goodness: Sixth Airdrop Delivers Aid To Gaza
The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence recently disclosed the execution of the sixth airdrop of humanitarian and relief aid over the northern Gaza Strip. This operation, a collaborative effort between the UAE Air Force and the Egyptian Air Force, aims to mitigate the hardships faced by the Palestinian population in these challenging times. The latest airdrop delivered 62 tonnes of food and medical supplies to northern Gaza, elevating the total aid provided through the "Birds of Goodness" initiative to 293 tonnes.
The "Birds of Goodness" operation, set to extend over several weeks, showcases the strong coordination between the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in their commitment to support Gaza's inhabitants. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the UAE to provide substantial humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip. To date, more than 21,000 tonnes of supplies have been transported to Gaza via over 200 flights, more than 520 trucks, and two ships.

In addition to airdrops, the UAE has launched the "Gallant Knight 3" operation, which includes establishing six water desalination stations in Gaza. These stations produce 1.2 million gallons of water daily, serving over 600,000 people. Furthermore, two field hospitals have been set up; one in southern Gaza managed by an Emirati medical team comprising over 100 professionals and another floating hospital off Al Arish city's coast with 200 beds. Since its inauguration on December 2, 2023, the first hospital has treated around 7,951 patients. The floating hospital began its operations on February 26, 2024.
The UAE's humanitarian efforts also extend to providing Starlink internet service for urgent medical consultations at the field hospital via video communication technology. Following directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, more than 545 individuals from Gaza have been welcomed into the UAE for medical treatment. This initiative aims to treat up to 2,000 injured and cancer patients from Gaza.
To address food security, the UAE has established five automated bakeries in Gaza capable of meeting the daily bread requirements of over 72,000 people. Additionally, flour has been supplied to seven existing bakeries in the region, each catering to the needs of 14,000 people daily.
This comprehensive aid program underscores the UAE's commitment to alleviating human suffering and supporting communities in crisis. Through these initiatives, the UAE and its partners continue to provide critical support to those affected by conflict and hardship in Gaza.
