UAE Demonstrates High Effectiveness In Managing Extreme Weather Events

Hassan Al Mansoori, Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), recently shed light on the UAE's adept handling of the severe weather conditions it faced last week. He emphasized the nation's prompt and effective response, which played a crucial role in safeguarding lives and properties, highlighting the rapid restoration of essential services such as roads, bridges, and dams.

Al Mansoori pointed out that in alignment with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's directive to assess the country's infrastructure damage and enhance future preparedness, MoEI collaborated with its partners to initiate a comprehensive evaluation of the inflicted damages due to the heavy rainfall. This initiative aims to develop a thorough understanding of the necessary expansions in dams and waterways to better withstand similar future events.

Al Mansoori underscored the ministry's dedication to formulating robust plans for emergency responses, ensuring public safety, and protecting infrastructure. He detailed the establishment of seven field teams, in partnership with private sector entities, poised for rapid action in response to any emergencies affecting federal roads and dams. This included proactive steps like opening dam gates to manage water levels effectively.

Furthermore, he highlighted the ministry's focus on conducting extensive technical evaluations of dam infrastructures, particularly their drainage systems' capacity to manage significant water volumes. This involved clearing waterways leading to dams and removing obstructions to facilitate smooth water flow.

In conclusion, Al Mansoori credited the advanced technologies employed by the Roads Network Command and Control Center and in dam management for enhancing the efficiency of their emergency response strategies. He reported that a total of 20 teams were mobilized to address obstructions on federal roads, ensuring swift removal of accumulated rainwater and repair of any damages.
