Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, the UAE's Minister of State for International Cooperation, recently met with María Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero, Ecuador's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility. This meeting took place during Rosero's official visit to the UAE. Both ministers emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation in vital sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure, and food security.
The economic relationship between the UAE and Ecuador is growing stronger. Despite the geographical distance, significant trade ties have been established. Dubai Ports World (DP World) has made notable investments in Ecuador, reflecting a shared commitment to economic diversification and prosperity.

During this visit, two key agreements were signed to bolster bilateral relations. A Memorandum of Understanding on visa exemptions for diplomatic and official passport holders was agreed upon. Additionally, an Air Services Agreement was signed to enhance tourism and cultural exchanges.
These agreements aim to improve people-to-people connections and foster cooperation in education, culture, and trade. The ministers also welcomed the start of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations between their countries.
Rosero's visit included tours of significant UAE landmarks such as Wahat Al Karama, where she paid tribute to the sacrifices of UAE martyrs. She also visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Masdar City, showcasing her interest in the UAE's cultural heritage and sustainable development initiatives.
Engagements with key institutions like the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) and DP World (JAFZA) were part of her itinerary. These interactions aimed at strengthening ties and exploring potential collaborations between Ecuadorian entities and these UAE organisations.
Warm Reception by UAE Officials
Rosero expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. His hospitality towards the Ecuadorian delegation was appreciated during their visit.
This visit underscores the mutual interest in fostering stronger diplomatic relations between Ecuador and the UAE. Both nations are keen on exploring further opportunities for collaboration across various sectors that promise mutual benefits.
