UAE Announces Successful Delivery Of 400 Tonnes Of Food Aid To Gaza
The United Arab Emirates, in a significant humanitarian gesture, has partnered with American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera) to deliver 400 tonnes of food aid to the northern Gaza Strip. This initiative is part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to provide relief and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, aiming to feed approximately 120 thousand people in need.
Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized the UAE's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and alleviating suffering in Gaza. The successful delivery and distribution of food relief underscore the UAE's dedication to scaling up its humanitarian actions in collaboration with international partners.
Sean Carroll, President and CEO of Anera, expressed profound gratitude for the UAE's support, highlighting the critical need for aid in northern Gaza. The partnership between the UAE and Anera has been instrumental in delivering essential food supplies to one of the most needy areas.
The UAE has allocated US$15 million under the Amalthea Fund to enhance aid flows in Gaza. This funding supports a comprehensive approach to delivering food and relief via land, air, and sea, reinforcing the humanitarian response to meet the urgent needs of Gaza's population.
To date, the UAE's contributions have surpassed 31,000 tonnes of urgent humanitarian supplies. These efforts are facilitated through a combination of 256 flights, 46 airdrops, 1,231 trucks, and six ships. The extensive delivery operation underscores the UAE's commitment to providing timely and effective aid.
In addition to immediate relief efforts, the UAE has launched sustainable projects aimed at ensuring long-term food and water security for Gaza's residents. Initiatives include establishing five automatic bakeries serving 72,000 people; supplying flour to eight existing bakeries aiding 17,140 people; and setting up six desalination plants with a combined capacity of 1.2 million gallons of water per day, benefiting up to 600,000 people.
This comprehensive approach not only addresses immediate needs but also invests in infrastructure that will continue to support the people of Gaza in the future. Through these actions, the UAE reaffirms its solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to alleviating human suffering through practical and sustainable solutions.
