UAE Delegation Led By Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Participates In World Summit For Social Development In Doha
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, led the UAE delegation at the Second World Summit for Social Development. The event was held in Qatar at the Qatar National Convention Centre under the theme "Together for Inclusive and Sustainable Social Development." This participation was on behalf of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The summit was inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. It saw attendance from numerous world leaders, heads of governments, and representatives from international and regional organisations. Distinguished figures in social and economic development also participated.
This summit is recognised as a crucial international platform for discussing the future of social development. It gathered thought leaders, policymakers, civil society organisations, United Nations representatives, and private sector participants to explore ways to enhance social justice and foster inclusive societies.
The first World Summit for Social Development took place in Copenhagen in 1995. It marked a significant global milestone by establishing comprehensive social development as a key pillar for sustainable development worldwide.
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak was joined by Sheikh Nahyan bin Saif bin Mohammed Al Nahyan and Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union. Senior officials from the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence were also part of the delegation.
The UAE delegation included representatives from several national entities focused on social development. These comprised the Ministry of Community Empowerment, Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi, General Women’s Union, Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Office of Development Affairs, Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority, Family Care Authority – Abu Dhabi, Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination, Authority of Social Contributions – Ma’an, The Executive Council of Dubai, Community Development Authority – Dubai, Social Services Department – Sharjah, and the Department of Statistics and Community Development – Sharjah.
The summit provided an opportunity to discuss strategies that promote inclusive growth. By bringing together diverse stakeholders from around the globe, it aimed to address challenges in achieving sustainable social development effectively.
