UAE Delegation Participates In Key Meetings During First Day Of 79th UN General Assembly
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) delegation actively engaged in key discussions at the 79th UN General Assembly. Over a week, they focused on humanitarian aid, climate change, global health, and conflict resolution. The UAE aims to collaborate with UN officials and member states on these priority issues.
Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, joined a conversation titled ‘A new Middle East: War, diplomacy, and emerging technology in a transforming region’ with Fred Kempe from the Atlantic Council. This event was organised by the Council to explore regional dynamics.

Dr. Amna Al Dahak announced a significant UAE partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). This collaboration aims to assist 20 countries in the Global South in enhancing their renewable energy goals. The UAE is committed to tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 through this initiative.
Al Dahak also attended events like ‘Turning Methane Pledges into Action’ and ‘Accelerating Solutions at the Intersection of Climate Change and Food Security’. These gatherings were hosted by the International Energy Agency and COP29 Presidency to address climate challenges.
The UAE launched the ‘Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD)’ platform with the UN Development Programme. This initiative aims to harness AI's potential for improving data accessibility for decision-makers in the Arab region. Omar Sultan Al Olama and Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan participated in this launch event.
Sheikha Shamma Bint Sultan Al Nahyan also attended the Concordia Annual Summit session on ‘Digital Financial Literacy’. During this event, she met Ann Warner, Interim CEO of the International Centre for Research on Women.
Strengthening International Relations
Reem Al Hashimy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana. This agreement establishes mutual visa exemptions between their countries. Additionally, Al Hashimy met Philippe Lazzarini from UNRWA alongside Sultan Al Shamsi to discuss regional cooperation.
Lana Nusseibeh engaged in talks with Hillary Clinton and Barbara Leaf about political affairs. She also discussed humanitarian efforts with Martin Griffiths, former UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.
Commitment to African Development
Sheikh Shakhboot Al Nahyan participated in events focusing on Africa’s development at the European Corporate Council summit. His involvement underscores UAE's dedication to sustainable growth across Africa through initiatives like the ‘UAE-Africa Trade Corridor’.
Saeed Al Hajeri represented UAE at the annual BRICS Sherpa meeting while Abdulla Balalaa joined discussions on climate action in vulnerable settings. Their participation highlights UAE's commitment to global economic and environmental issues.
The UAE remains dedicated to supporting international efforts for stable societies during its participation in the General Debate of the 79th UN General Assembly session. Their active involvement reflects a commitment to being a reliable partner on global platforms.
