UAE at Forefront of BETD 2024

During BETD 2024, the UAE delegation engaged in discussions with leading industry players such as Siemens and Airbus. Topics of discussion spanned renewable energy, hydrogen supply chains, carbon management, e-mobility, and charging infrastructure. These meetings underscored the UAE's commitment to fostering partnerships that advance sustainable energy development.

A notable meeting took place between Balalaa and Jennifer Morgan, Special Envoy for International Climate Policy and State Secretary. The dialogue centered on Germany's significant contributions to the global energy transition and the UAE's eagerness to build on the successes of COP28. They also explored future initiatives like the Green Coast Initiative and strategies to address Loss and Damage.

Investment opportunities were a key focus during discussions with Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The potential involvement of UAE investment funds such as Masdar in offshore wind parks in the North Sea and Baltic Sea was highlighted, emphasizing mutual interests in clean energy promotion.

The UAE's vision for climate action as a pathway to economic diversification and job creation aligns with its Net Zero 2050 strategy. This approach positions the nation as a leader in climate change mitigation while ensuring energy security.

Furthermore, Balalaa's meeting with Dr. Juergen Friedrich explored the German hydrogen strategy and potential collaboration between the UAE and Germany in advancing hydrogen technologies. This discussion reaffirmed both nations' commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

In conversations with Dr. Carsten Rolle, Managing Director of the World Energy Council – Germany, both parties reflected on their collaboration during COP28. They discussed various initiatives and policy developments aimed at enhancing climate action.

An event titled ‘Putting Goals into Practice - COP28 Implications for Renewables Businesses’ highlighted the UAE's intent to transition from pledges to implementation in climate action. The conference concluded with a historic agreement by 198 Parties to initiate a new era of climate action, underscoring the UAE's role in fostering international cooperation for sustainability.

The participation of the UAE delegation at BETD 2024 not only reinforces the country's commitment to sustainable development but also positions it as a key player in shaping global energy policies. Through strategic partnerships and initiatives, the UAE continues to contribute significantly to the global transition towards sustainable energy systems.
