UAE Delegation Led By Ohood Al Roumi Advocates For Multilateralism At UN Summit Of The Future

The UAE participated in the Summit of the Future during the 79th UN General Assembly in New York on September 22-23, 2024. Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and The Future, led the delegation. The UAE highlighted the need for collaboration and multilateralism to tackle global issues and create a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.

Ohood Al Roumi delivered a statement at the Summit's plenary session on September 23rd. She urged the international community to reaffirm its commitment to multilateral cooperation. Al Roumi stressed the UAE’s dedication to using emerging technologies safely and encouraged leaders to protect future generations. "The situation demands that we come together, agree and commit to concrete solutions, prepare for emerging challenges, while reaffirming the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of multilateralism," said Al Roumi.

During this significant event, UN member states adopted key documents: the Pact for the Future, a Global Digital Compact, and a Declaration on Future Generations. These documents aim to address pressing global issues through collective action. The UAE played an active role in shaping these outcomes by engaging pragmatically before the Summit.

The UAE's priorities include tackling climate change with initiatives like the "UAE Consensus." It also focuses on promoting tolerance, peaceful coexistence, combating hate speech, advancing technology and education, protecting culture, and supporting youth and women's peace agendas. These efforts reflect its commitment to addressing today's challenges effectively.
