UAE Delegation Engages At 15th BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting In Brazil To Boost Economic Ties

The United Arab Emirates, represented by Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Assistant Undersecretary of International Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Economy, took part in the 15th BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting in Brasília, Brazil. Al Kait highlighted the UAE's dedication to enhancing partnerships and exploring new avenues for trade, investment, and collaboration among BRICS countries.

During the meeting, member states discussed significant global trade issues and reiterated their commitment to a fair and rules-based multilateral trading system. The gathering concluded with the approval of several important documents aimed at boosting economic cooperation and strengthening BRICS' influence in global trade governance. These outcomes underscore a shared commitment to fostering closer trade relations and economic prosperity within the bloc.

UAE Attends BRICS Trade Ministers Meeting

The UAE used this platform to highlight its strong bilateral relationship with Brazil, a founding BRICS member. This partnership has been bolstered by successful joint initiatives that have expanded the UAE's ties with its largest trading partner in South America. In 2024, non-oil bilateral trade between the UAE and Brazil reached US$5.4 billion, marking a 23 percent increase from the previous year.

Al Kait emphasized that the BRICS trade partnership is crucial for finding solutions together and demonstrates the importance of global trade multilateralism. He stated, "The UAE is dedicated to fostering trade and economic collaboration among BRICS and internationally. We view our role as a bridge between East and West and the Global South, facilitating dialogue and partnerships that drive sustainable economic development and growth."

The UAE's active participation in BRICS reflects its broader commitment to global economic cooperation and diplomacy. By engaging in these dialogues, the UAE reinforces its position as an economic leader advocating for inclusive development while addressing global challenges.

Expanding BRICS Membership

The annual BRICS Trade Ministers’ Meeting coincides with the BRICS summit, serving as a vital platform for strengthening ties and promoting trade initiatives. Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS has recently expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Collectively representing about 40 percent of the world's population and around 25 percent of global GDP, these nations play a significant role in the global economy. The UAE joined BRICS in 2024 as part of its strategic focus on expanding diplomatic ties worldwide to enhance its role in driving global economic growth.

As the UAE continues to strengthen its partnerships within BRICS, it remains committed to advancing joint initiatives aligned with the bloc’s vision of promoting global economic inclusivity and resilience.
