UAE And Cyprus Deepen Strategic Partnership Through Energy Deals And Joint Action Plan

The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus are deepening their strategic partnership following the official visit of Dr. Constantinos Kombos to the UAE from 23 to 25 January 2026. The visit confirmed shared priorities in energy, investment, and regional engagement, and produced two main outcomes: an energy partnership agreement and a detailed joint action plan.

The UAE–Cyprus Energy Partnership Agreement is a central result of the visit. It was first announced during the official visit of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Republic of Cyprus in December 2025. The agreement sets a framework for energy security, infrastructure projects, and sustainable solutions linking the Gulf, Eastern Mediterranean, and Europe.

UAE and Cyprus deepen strategic partnership

During the visit, Dr. Kombos met H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. The meeting reviewed the steady growth of bilateral relations and explored new areas for cooperation. Both sides also discussed regional and international developments, stressing regular coordination, especially as Cyprus assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The two countries agreed to endorse the UAE–Cyprus Joint Action Plan to structure future cooperation. This plan defines key areas such as political consultations, economic and investment links, and cooperation on energy and innovation. It also highlights institutional collaboration and places strong emphasis on follow-up mechanisms and practical implementation in the coming period.

Sectoral cooperation in the UAE–Cyprus partnership

Alongside high-level talks, Dr. Kombos held meetings with senior UAE officials, including Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Reem Al Hashimy, Lana Nusseibeh, and Nickolay Mladenov. Discussions covered investment opportunities, industrial and energy partnerships, and expanded institutional and academic exchange through the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy.

The outcomes of the visit show the UAE’s intent to work closely with European and Eastern Mediterranean partners on long-term projects. The UAE and the Republic of Cyprus are aligning political dialogue, sectoral agreements, and institutional tools to support energy security, economic cooperation, and sustained engagement across their shared regions.
