UAE And Cyprus Sign MoU To Establish Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Dr. Constantinos Kombos in Abu Dhabi for talks. The two foreign ministers discussed deepening ties between the UAE and Cyprus, signed a new energy memorandum of understanding, and exchanged views on regional developments and cooperation with the European Union.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a comprehensive strategic partnership in the energy sector between both states. The ministers also examined ways to expand collaboration in trade, investment, renewable energy, economic projects and technology, highlighting shared interest in long‑term, sustainable growth that benefits people in both countries.

The discussions built on the visit by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Cyprus in December. Both sides reviewed the results of that visit, noting how it supported progress in their comprehensive strategic partnership and opened further possibilities across multiple sectors, including energy, infrastructure and innovation.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed welcomed Dr. Kombos and offered congratulations on Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. The talks underlined the importance of relations between the UAE and the European Union, with Cyprus seen as an important partner in promoting dialogue and practical cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah stressed that relations between the UAE and Cyprus are based on mutual trust, respect and shared visions. The meeting also covered regional and international issues, focusing on Middle East developments and efforts to support durable security and stability. Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State, attended the discussions, which highlighted sustained political coordination.
