UAE Cyber Security Council Reports Success In Countering Ransomware Attacks And Identifying Hackers

The UAE Cyber Security Council recently revealed that it successfully blocked ransomware attacks aimed at key sectors within both public and private organisations. These attacks sought to compromise data and disable digital systems. The Council's emergency cybersecurity systems, working alongside relevant authorities, managed to detect and counter approximately 200,000 cyberattacks daily.

Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Chairman of the Cyber Security Council, reiterated the dedication of national task forces to strengthening the UAE's digital landscape. He highlighted their commitment to protecting critical infrastructure by adhering to global best practices. "The UAE's advanced digital infrastructure is well-equipped to detect and mitigate cyber threats with high efficiency and speed," he stated.

UAE Counters Ransomware Attacks Successfully

The Council noted a rise in sophisticated breach attempts, many using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This emerging challenge targets digital infrastructure with AI-driven threats like deepfake technologies, social engineering, and enhanced malware such as ransomware. These threats are becoming increasingly complex and difficult to detect without advanced technologies.

Traditional attacks like phishing and social engineering are expected to continue alongside a surge in AI-powered cyberattacks. The Council anticipates these emerging threats will be more intricate, requiring cutting-edge solutions for detection and prevention.

The Council stressed the importance of all public and private entities adhering to cybersecurity standards to protect against such malicious attacks. It urged institutions and individuals to remain vigilant against potential cyber threats, particularly phishing attempts and fraudulent messages.

Institutions were advised not to disclose personal information through suspicious links and to use only official communication channels. The Council also emphasised verifying email link authenticity to prevent falling victim to cyberattacks.

Ransomware: A Costly Threat

Ransomware is a type of malicious software that infects devices by encrypting data, locking users out until a ransom is paid, often in cryptocurrencies. These attacks have significant financial implications globally, costing institutions hundreds of millions annually.

The Council warned about the increasing availability of sophisticated AI-powered tools among criminal organisations and terrorist groups. This could lead to a rise in precision-targeted attacks against unprepared entities.

The Council identified hackers' origins using advanced protection frameworks and cybersecurity policies. It highlighted the need for vigilance against potential cyberattacks while urging caution regarding phishing attempts.

The UAE Cyber Security Council continues its efforts in fortifying national cybersecurity measures. By collaborating with relevant authorities, they aim to safeguard both public and private sectors from evolving cyber threats effectively.
