UAE and Cuba Strengthen Ties at World Governments Summit 2024 in Dubai

On the second day of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, engaged in a significant meeting with Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of Cuba. This high-profile gathering, aimed at fostering international cooperation, was also graced by the presence of key figures including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court; His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

The discussions between His Highness Sheikh Mohammed and Prime Minister Cruz centered on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for increased cooperation across various sectors. Emphasizing the critical role of collaboration and coordination among world governments, His Highness highlighted its essential contribution to improving global community wellbeing. The meeting also witnessed the signing of an agreement focused on cooperation and knowledge exchange between the UAE Government and the Government of Cuba.

UAE-Cuba Talks at WGS 2024

Prime Minister Cruz lauded the UAE's governance model and its commitment to sharing knowledge with governments globally. He underscored the robust relationship between Cuba and the UAE and pointed out the World Governments Summit's pivotal role in promoting international cooperation. This summit serves as a platform for equipping government officials worldwide with necessary tools and insights to tackle future challenges effectively.

Also in attendance were His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group; His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council; and Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and Chairman of the World Governments Summit.

The WGS 2024, under the theme ‘Shaping Future Governments’, is a cornerstone event held in Dubai until 14th February. It has convened more than 25 heads of state, over 85 international and regional organisations along with global institutions, 140 governments, alongside distinguished thought leaders and experts. The summit features over 200 prominent speakers participating in more than 110 dialogues and sessions. With more than 4,000 attendees, the event includes over 23 ministerial meetings and executive sessions attended by more than 300 ministers, marking a significant milestone in fostering global governance dialogue.
