Pope Francis was renowned for fostering intercultural and interfaith dialogue. His visit to the UAE marked a significant milestone as it was the first papal visit to the region. During this visit, he signed the Human Fraternity Document with Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb on 4 February 2019 in Abu Dhabi.

This document became a global symbol for peace and coexistence. It was later recognised by the United Nations General Assembly, which declared 4 February as the International Day of Human Fraternity. This initiative continues to inspire efforts towards tolerance and mutual understanding worldwide.

H.H. Sheikh Khaled expressed deep sympathies to the College of Cardinals, the Holy See, and Catholics worldwide on Pope Francis' passing. He highlighted that Pope Francis was a beacon of human fraternity and cultural coexistence whose humanitarian legacy will inspire future generations.

The presence of UAE dignitaries at the funeral underscores the importance placed on fostering international relations and promoting dialogue across cultures and faiths. Their attendance reflects a commitment to continuing Pope Francis' mission of peace and understanding among diverse communities.
