UAE Council For Infrastructure And Housing Reviews Strategic Initiatives At Third Meeting For 2025

The UAE Council for Infrastructure and Housing recently convened its third regular meeting for 2025. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, led the session. The focus was on evaluating strategic initiatives and projects that aim to advance transport and urban planning sectors. Discussions centred on future solutions to alleviate traffic congestion and improve traffic flow nationwide.

During the meeting, national projects aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing road network efficiency were reviewed. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to improve urban living standards. Plans to develop smart mobility solutions and integrate transport systems were also discussed. This aligns with the government's vision for sustainable infrastructure that supports urban growth and meets societal needs.

The council highlighted the impact of the national railway network in easing road congestion. Since its full launch in 2023, it has removed over two million truck trips from roads. This number is expected to increase by approximately seven million trips in the next five years, significantly reducing road traffic.

The operation of freight trains has resulted in a substantial reduction in carbon emissions, ranging from 70 to 80 percent compared to road freight transport. This initiative supports the UAE's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, showcasing a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Al Mazrouei stated, "The relevant entities continue to implement a national roadmap to integrate land and rail transport at both the federal and local levels. The goal is to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve the efficiency of logistics services."

Al Mazrouei further emphasised the UAE's dedication to adopting proactive solutions driven by innovation and data. These efforts aim to strengthen integration across transport, housing, and urban planning sectors, aligning with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision objectives.

He added that through the council's work, practical policies are being formulated to shape future infrastructure and urban transport in line with national goals and leadership vision.
