UAE Committee Holds First Meeting To Assess Flood Damage And Plan Recovery

In a significant move following the recent severe weather conditions, the UAE has established a committee dedicated to evaluating the aftermath and implementing recovery strategies for the nation's infrastructure, roads, and dams. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, marks a critical step in addressing the challenges posed by the intense rainfall that affected various regions across the country.

The inaugural meeting of this committee was chaired by Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. It saw the participation of members from a wide range of federal and local entities. The primary focus was on setting immediate priorities and formulating plans to assess and mitigate the damages incurred.

During this pivotal gathering, Minister Al Mazrouei underscored the formation of four specialized technical committees. These groups are tasked with focusing on distinct areas: roads and infrastructure; houses and properties; dams and water facilities; and energy and water. This structured approach aims to ensure a comprehensive assessment and swift restoration of all affected sectors.

The Minister praised the rapid action and dedication of field teams from various entities, highlighting their instrumental role in safeguarding lives and properties. Their efforts have been crucial in restoring essential services, such as roads, bridges, and dams, to operational status swiftly.

Following directives from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Al Mazrouei has mandated these committees to promptly commence damage assessments. An integrated operational plan is to be developed for repairing infrastructure damages. A deadline of one week has been set to receive a detailed report on these assessments.

Furthermore, Al Mazrouei announced the commissioning of a comprehensive study aimed at evaluating the need for expanding dams and waterways to better manage future extreme weather events. This initiative underscores a commitment to enhancing the resilience of the UAE's infrastructure against weather-related challenges.

The Ministry is also actively coordinating efforts to assess damages to citizens' homes, providing necessary aid and logistical support. This measure is part of a broader strategy to facilitate rapid recovery and alleviate the hardships faced by affected residents.
