UAE Reaffirms Humanitarian Commitment And Diplomatic Efforts Amid Sudan Crisis
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has consistently maintained a firm stance on the Sudanese civil war, which began in April 2023. The UAE's approach combines strong condemnation of severe violations, demands for an immediate cessation of hostilities, and advocacy for a political resolution led by civilians. This position has been communicated through various official statements from May 2023 to October 2025.
On 9th June, the UAE denounced attacks on civilians in El Fasher as a "dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law." The UAE urged the opening of humanitarian corridors and emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians. Additionally, on 14th February 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the use of chemical weapons in West Darfur, as reported by the UN, labeling it a war crime that must not be ignored.
The UAE has been actively involved in providing humanitarian aid to Sudan. From May 2023 to December 2024, over 122 cargo planes delivered 8,300 tonnes of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials to Port Sudan and Darfur. The UAE also established field hospitals in Chad and South Sudan to support Sudanese refugees and provided assistance to more than 127 health facilities across 14 states.
In November 2024, an emergency campaign was launched by the UAE to deliver 100,000 food baskets to Al Jazirah and Kassala states via an airlift consisting of 14 flights within one week. This initiative is part of the UAE's long-standing commitment to supporting Sudan beyond the conflict. Between 2014 and 2025, approximately $3.9 billion in aid was provided by the UAE.
The UAE believes that all parties involved in the conflict share responsibility for atrocities committed since its inception. During an intervention at the Human Rights Council on 3rd March 2025, the UAE called for an end to violations against women and children and stressed comprehensive civilian protection under international humanitarian law.
Since participating in Jeddah in May 2023, followed by meetings in Manama (June 2024), Geneva (October 2024), and Washington (July 2025), the UAE has advocated for a political solution prioritising Sudanese people's interests over warring factions'. A transitional process led by independent civilians is essential for forming a legitimate government within nine months.
Addressing Misinformation and Extremism
With misinformation campaigns intensifying around mid-2024 regarding Sudan's conflict, the UAE expressed concern over attempts to distort facts. On 7th September 2025, an official statement highlighted how media disinformation prolongs war while increasing civilian suffering. The UAE called for confronting hate speech while supporting responsible media promoting peace.
The growing threat posed by extremist groups within Sudan was addressed at an international security meeting in July 2025. The UAE warned that these groups pose a direct threat to regional stability and urged international cooperation to contain terrorism sources.
Commitment to Peaceful Resolution
The UAE's unwavering support for Sudan includes advocating for sustainable political solutions alongside rejecting war while protecting civilians' rights. These efforts aim at ensuring ceasefires are upheld while facilitating humanitarian access through strengthened civilian-led transitional paths—helping Sudan navigate one of its most complex crises yet.
