UAE Officials Emphasise Commitment To Clean Energy Transition On World Energy Day

Energy leaders in the UAE stress that World Energy Day is a call for global cooperation and action. It also celebrates the nation's energy achievements. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) highlighted this in a statement for World Energy Day, observed on 22nd October each year. This initiative, supported by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was adopted by 54 countries at the World Energy Forum 2012 in Dubai.

World Energy Day aims to ensure safe and sustainable energy access for all. It encourages developing national policies that reflect global energy perspectives. The day also focuses on creating frameworks for sharing expertise worldwide. Additionally, it raises awareness about conserving natural resources and protecting the environment through sustainable energy practices.

UAE Highlights Clean Energy Commitment on World Energy Day

The UAE prioritises diversifying energy sources and increasing clean energy use. The UAE Energy Strategy 2050 aims to triple renewable energy contributions by 2030, with investments of AED150 to AED200 billion planned to meet growing energy demands. This strategy reflects the country's commitment to transitioning towards a green economy.

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated, "Energy plays a key role in achieving sustainable development, but it is essential to find the right balance between economic growth and the preservation of natural resources." He highlighted the UAE's success in balancing these aspects due to visionary leadership.

Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei emphasised sustainability's importance in the energy sector and the UAE's dedication to clean energy transitions. He noted that "the UAE takes confident steps to achieve its clean energy targets," guided by the UAE Energy Strategy 2050. Currently, six gigawatts of renewables and 5.6 GW of nuclear power contribute to one of the world's cleanest grids.

The minister added that significant investments in solar and nuclear technologies have positioned the UAE as a leader in adopting advanced clean energy solutions. Projects like Barakah nuclear plant and Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Complex exemplify this leadership.

Innovative Initiatives for Sustainable Growth

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer expressed DEWA's commitment to increasing clean energy within the national mix through initiatives like the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. He said these efforts aim for 100% clean energy capacity by 2050, highlighting research, development, and innovation's role in reducing carbon emissions.

Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi remarked on World Energy Day's significance in promoting cleaner, efficient solutions for future generations' benefit. He stressed innovation and investment as crucial for environmental preservation.

Collaborative Efforts Towards Sustainability

Ahmad bin Shafar from Empower highlighted World Energy Day's importance in encouraging steps towards environmental preservation and global energy efficiency transition. Empower focuses on enhancing efficiency through environmentally friendly district cooling systems under visionary leadership guidance.

Yousif Ahmed Al Ali from Etihad Water and Electricity noted World Energy Day underscores collaboration among institutions for sustainable futures. "At Etihad Water and Electricity, we are at the forefront of integrating transformative technologies," he said, contributing to achieving Net Zero by 2050.

Masdar's Role in Green Transition

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi from Masdar discussed their role in advancing clean energy sectors aligned with leadership visions for economic diversification through renewable solutions. "Masdar is accelerating the green transition," he stated, supporting goals set by historic UAE Consensus aiming at tripling global renewable capacity by 2030.

Masdar remains committed to expanding its innovative approach towards clean energies like green hydrogen while pursuing its goal of reaching 100 GW of renewables by 2030—ensuring sustainable futures both locally within UAE borders globally beyond them too!
