UAE Cinema Sector Achieves AED 800 Million Revenue In 2024 Amidst Growing Audience Engagement
The UAE's cinema industry achieved AED800 million in revenue in 2024, driven by increased audience participation. This growth has strengthened the nation's status as a major player in the film industry and a top destination for global film premieres. With 1,262 films shown and 15 million tickets sold, UAE cinemas have enhanced public trust in high-quality entertainment.
Simultaneously, the e-gaming sector saw remarkable expansion, generating over AED1.5 billion in revenue during the same year. This surge was propelled by a rising demand for video games. To ensure content suitability, 375 video games underwent review and classification under the UAE's age-rating system, adhering to media regulations.

Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, stated that these accomplishments highlight the Council’s dedication to boosting competitiveness in both the film and e-gaming industries. The Council aims to strengthen their role within the media landscape by developing regulatory frameworks and fostering a business-friendly environment for entertainment content growth.
Al Shehhi emphasized that several factors contributed to this success, with diverse cinematic content being a primary driver. "UAE cinemas offer films in more than twenty global languages, reflecting the country’s cultural diversity and affirming its status as a global destination for the film industry."
The UAE has capitalized on early releases of international films, strategically positioning itself as a market where audiences can experience global productions simultaneously with major markets worldwide. This approach enhances its appeal as a premier destination for film enthusiasts.
Al Shehhi highlighted the UAE Media Council’s commitment to monitoring media content and assigning appropriate age classifications. This ensures films and video games align with different age groups, allowing families to choose suitable content for children while enhancing public confidence in cinematic and gaming experiences.
Infrastructure and Business Environment
The UAE’s integrated services and ease of doing business have bolstered its position as a leading hub for the media industry. The nation offers advanced infrastructure, streamlined procedures, and a flexible regulatory system that supports investments in both film and gaming sectors.
The UAE Media Council continues to play an essential role in enhancing competitiveness within these sectors by updating policies and regulations. It also launches strategic partnerships and fosters an environment supportive of talent and creativity. This drives growth in both sectors, solidifying the UAE’s standing as one of the world’s leading hubs for media content creation.
