UAE And China Leaders Convene In Beijing To Bolster Strategic Partnership

In a significant diplomatic engagement, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, met with China President Xi Jinping in Beijing. This meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People underscored the deep-rooted bilateral relations and explored avenues for enhanced cooperation within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

The visit spanning two days, marks a notable moment as it coincides with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and China. Both leaders celebrated the considerable strides made over the past four, particularly in economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and international collaboration.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and President Xi Jinping addressed several key regional and international matters, emphasizing the importance of global peace and stability. Discussions also focused on resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic efforts, alongside enhancing international cooperation to tackle global challenges.

UAE-China Strategic Talks in Beijing

A critical discussion point was the situation in the Middle East, with both leaders calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, protection of civilians, and provision of humanitarian aid. They stressed the prevention of conflict expansion and the pursuit of a lasting peace based on the two-state solution. Furthermore, they affirmed their support for efforts aimed at achieving regional calm and preventing further tensions.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by China. He reiterated the significance of this visit in bolstering the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Reflecting on the historical ties, His Highness highlighted the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984, shortly after the UAE's formation, which China recognized soon after.

The UAE President fondly remembered the visit of the UAE's Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to China in 1990, which significantly strengthened bilateral relations. The state visit of President Xi Jinping to the UAE in 2018 was another landmark, leading to the declaration of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed lauded the substantial progress in economic, energy, industry, investment, and cultural sectors between the two nations. With China as the UAE's foremost global trading partner, efforts are underway to double trade volumes in the coming years. The UAE’s strategic role in the Belt and Road Initiative and as a trade gateway to the Arabian Gulf and Middle East was also emphasized, offering Chinese companies opportunities to expand their economic and trade relations globally.

The discussions concluded with a banquet hosted by President Xi Jinping in honour of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the UAE delegation, attended by Chinese ministers and senior officials, celebrating the enduring friendship and cooperation between the UAE and China.
