UAE And China Aim To Strengthen Media Sector Cooperation Through Technology And AI

Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office (NMO) and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, recently met with ZHU Yonglei, Vice Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration of China (NRTA), to discuss enhancing cooperation in various media sectors. The meeting took place at the NMO's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

During the visit, Sheikh Abdulla expressed his aspirations to deepen media coordination between the UAE and China. He highlighted the strong political will driving the relationship between the two nations, as evidenced by mutual visits and commitments to cooperation. "This relationship, characterised by diversity and depth, is driven by a strong political will reflected in mutual visits between the leadership of the two countries and their commitment to deepening relations, cooperation, coordination, and the exchange of visions," he said.

UAE-China Media Cooperation Boost

The meeting aligns with the comprehensive strategic partnership between the UAE and China, aimed at promoting sustainable development and prosperity. Sheikh Abdulla praised existing media cooperation and expressed his eagerness to expand it further for mutual benefit. Both parties discussed collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) within the media sector and keeping pace with new media technologies and global changes.

The officials affirmed their desire to establish a distinguished model of cooperation that would enrich the media landscape in both countries. They deliberated on exchanging experiences in various media fields, improving communication between media organisations, creating collaborative projects, and exploring new opportunities to elevate the media industry.

Jamal Mohammed Obaid Al Kaabi, Director-General of the NMO, and Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Secretary-General of the UAE Media Council, also attended the meeting. Both sides emphasised consolidating partnerships between media institutions to support shared goals and enhance each country's media landscape.

At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Abdulla welcomed the Chinese delegation and discussed President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's upcoming visit to China on 30th May at President Xi Jinping's invitation. Both sides praised their strong bilateral relations, which continue to grow due to leadership efforts in various sectors including economic, political, cultural, scientific, and media.

Promoting National Talent

Sheikh Abdulla highlighted UAE's media laws that promote national talent to create Emirati content reflecting national values and identity among youth. This aligns with leadership guidance to advance the media industry by leveraging UAE's strengths and competitive advantages for economic contribution.

The Chairman emphasised that UAE is a leading global media hub with an appealing platform for international entities. "In our media community, there are over 10,000 companies and more than 350,000 professionals involved in cultural and creative industries," he concluded.
