UAE And Chile Leaders Discuss Enhancing Bilateral Ties For Future Prosperity

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font discussed enhancing UAE-Chile relations. Their talks focused on cooperation in commercial, investment, and developmental sectors. They explored ways to advance bilateral ties to support sustainable development and prosperity for both nations.

During the official meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, His Highness welcomed President Boric on his first visit to the UAE since diplomatic relations began in 1978. He highlighted the significance of this visit in fostering new horizons for mutual interests.

The leaders reviewed progress in UAE-Chilean relations, particularly in economy, investment, renewable energy, digital economy, climate action, and infrastructure. These areas are crucial for bolstering sustainable economic prosperity for both countries.

His Highness emphasised the importance of strengthening relations with Latin American countries. He noted that the UAE's comprehensive vision for cooperation focuses on development and stability as fundamental pillars for a prosperous future.

The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed during the visit marks a significant milestone in their economic relations. It reflects the shared will to foster substantial progress and build bridges of cooperation with major global economies.

Both leaders discussed investing in diverse opportunities to develop cooperation, especially in renewable energy, digital economy, sustainability solutions, and climate action. The UAE and Chile have led pioneering projects and share the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Chile is a partner in the Mangrove Alliance for Climate led by the UAE and Indonesia. This partnership underscores their commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.

Regional and International Cooperation

The two presidents exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. They discussed supporting multilateral international efforts to enhance stability, cooperation, and development worldwide.

His Highness highlighted that from January to April 2024, non-oil trade between the UAE and Chile increased by 26% compared to the same period last year. This growth indicates significant progress in economic relations between the two countries.

Shared Development Goals

The Chilean President expressed his pleasure in visiting the UAE and meeting His Highness. He appreciated the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation during their visit.

President Boric emphasised Chile's eagerness to expand cooperation with the UAE. He noted that Chile aims to benefit from the UAE's inspiring developmental experience to enhance sustainable economic prosperity for both countries.

He stated that Chile is keen to invest in opportunities that build partnerships achieving mutual interests, particularly in economy, investment, renewable energy, and more.

Luncheon Hosted by UAE President

His Excellency penned a message in the guest book expressing hope that this visit would significantly boost cooperation between both countries. He aimed for shared objectives of enhanced development and prosperity.

The talks were attended by several high-ranking officials from both sides. The UAE delegation included Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Deputy Prime Minister Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Foreign Affairs Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan; among others.

The Chilean delegation comprised several ministers and senior officials accompanying President Boric during his visit.

A luncheon was hosted by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in honour of President Gabriel Boric Font and his delegation following their discussions at Qasr Al Watan.
